It’s been really shocking to see the amount of conjecture surrounding what would have happened if had been BLM who had stormed the capitol. The vast majority are raising a legitimate point about the systematic racism and resulting incompetence that leads to the over policing of some groups compared to the under policing of others. But what they are failing to recognise is that these comments imply that pro-Trump mobsters and BLM protestors are some how compatible. They’re not. BLM employs protest, civil disobedience and on a very small number of occasions criminal damage to highlight legitimate complaints in response to genuine wrong doing. It’s an example of direct politics that is part of the democratic process. The storming of Congress as it was confirming an election result is a direct obstruction to the democratic process. Holding a flag or placard didn’t make these people protesters. The aim wasn’t to voice grievances, their aim was to obstruct a democratic process they didn’t like. So next time you read 'if this had been BLM image what would have happened' push back. BLM wouldn’t have done this; they are a protest movement seeking justice as opposed to mobsters trying to strongarm their will without legitimacy.
