Celebrate

The victory was not as immediate or comprehensive as it could, or should, have been.

But, on Saturday night it was finally over. And, watching videos of decent people spontaneously taking to the Philidephian streets to celebrate was utterly beautiful.

Those who had been suppressed, had their voices silenced, their reputations tarnished, had their loved ones taken by preventable disease and state-sponsored brutality burst into joyful relief. They had won their most important and immediate battle. Overcome the extisensial threat. Proven that decency could still prevail in their country.

They did not get everything they would have wanted, or deserved. But, the most awful part of the most awful thing is over. Gone; relegated to a pathetic nobody hitting their Twitter profile — CAPS stuck on.

That, in a year of terrible news upon terrible news, is something worth celebrating.
